Anti Snoring Devices

If you’re prone to snoring, or suspect you might even suffer from sleep apnoea, take heart!

Advanced Dental Centre’s Dr Nichola Matto is currently undertaking a Graduate Diploma of Dental Sleep Medicine, offered jointly by the University of Adelaide and the University of Western Australia, gaining expert knowledge that will help us to help you.

Sleep apnoea is a serious disorder affecting about one in 20 adults. It’s caused when the airway from the mouth to the lungs collapses during sleep.

According to Sleep Disorders Australia, sufferers stop breathing for 10 seconds or more. The brain then wakes up in order to resume breathing, which results in poor-quality sleep.

Most sleep apnea sufferers don’t know they’re regularly waking up during the night, but many complain of morning headaches, excessive daytime fatigue, personality changes and depression, loss of memory and concentration, excessive snoring or choking during sleep, insomnia or waking up with a dry mouth or sore throat.

Snoring is a major indicator, and of course it’s often detected by the sufferer’s partner who is also subsequently forced to endure rough nights without sleep.

Interestingly, though, dentists also often play a crucial role in detecting sleep apnea in their patients, through conversations about less evident symptoms such as extreme tiredness, morning headaches or dry mouth.

The good news is that oral appliances are often effective in treating snoring and moderate sleep apnea, by helping to position the jaw and tongue to increase the volume of air flow and prevent soft tissues in the mouth from collapsing.

Oral appliance therapy can help patients sleep more comfortably, as there is no need to wear a CPAP mask which means no machines, tubes or ties are required.

If you’re worried about snoring, sleep apnea or dry mouth, talk to one of our dentists about treatment options today.

Cerec

When it comes to the latest in 3D dental restoration, CEREC Dentistry is the way to go. We are delighted to offer this amazing new technology to our patients at Advanced Dental Centre.

CEREC is short for "Ceramic Reconstruction". While you lie back in the dentist's chair, we use 3D photography and CAD/CAM technology (that's "computer-aided design" and "computer-aided manufacture") to create custom-fitted fillings, crowns, onlays, inlays, or veneers out of tooth-coloured ceramics.

We now use CEREC technology for procedures such as:

- Replacing deteriorating amalgam restorations

- Covering cracked or decaying teeth

- Restoring natural tooth structure

- Improving the appearance of heavily restored teeth

It all happens in a single sitting, unlike the multiple sittings of the past. That means the entire procedure is much more streamlined for our dentists and, more importantly, for you.

While many Adelaide and Australian dental restoration laboratories send their work overseas, CEREC allows us to complete the procedure on the premises. This means we have complete control of the materials, design, and quality of the restoration.

And importantly, for patients prone to gagging, the use of 3D photography also eliminates the need to take an impression.

After creating an optical impression with our state-of-the-art 3D camera, we send your exact specifications to our on-site milling machine to create your restoration. Within about 15 minutes, your all-ceramic, perfectly colour-matched restoration is ready for placement. We then fit, polish, and bond the restoration, and you walk out the door with a restored tooth and a new smile.

From our CEREC dental work to date, we believe the technology offers a higher-quality finish than many laboratory-fabricated restorations. Little wonder we believe CEREC is the way forward in dental restorations.

Benefits of CEREC restorations at a glance:

- Only one visit needed

- The entire procedure was completed on our premises

- No impressions are required (a major benefit if you're prone to gagging)

- 3D technology ensures precision design and a perfect match to your teeth

- Colour matching

- No temporary fillings or crowns

- Metal-free

- Highly durable and long-lasting

- Minimal disruption to healthy tooth structure

Cosmetic Dentistry

There is no denying that a smile is a powerful sign of well-being and friendliness. Perfectly aligned, white, healthy teeth and correctly contoured gums will brighten your smile and boost your confidence.

If you're looking for cosmetic dentistry in Adelaide, our service is a simple way to a winning smile, with our experienced team of dental professionals offering advice on the latest technologies and materials to ensure you choose the treatment that's best for you. Cosmetic dental services include:

- [Dental Implants]

- Veneers

- Crown and Bridges

- Tooth-coloured Fillings

- Inlays and Onlays

- [Tooth Whitening]

Dental Implants

Missing teeth or dentures can be replaced with dental implants. Our cosmetic dental surgeons place a titanium fixture into your jaw, which serves as an anchor for a crown or a set of crowns or bridges. Those who wear full dentures can also use dental implants to secure them into place firmly.

Veneers

Veneers are often a quick and easy way to fix cosmetic issues of the front teeth. We use TGA-approved adhesives and porcelain laminate veneers because they provide natural teeth' look, feel, and strength.

Crown and Bridges

A dental crown, also known as a dental cap or tooth cap, is often the best way to improve the structural strength and cosmetic look of teeth that have been chipped, worn excessively, heavily filled, or broken down by tooth decay.

If you have missing teeth, a dental bridge could be the solution. Our cosmetic dentistry surgeons will create a "bridge" with two dental crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap and custom-made teeth in between. Once bonded, the dental bridge fills the area left by the missing teeth.

You can choose to have your crown or bridge made from porcelain, precious metal or a combination of the two. We use precious metals to prevent allergic reactions that can sometimes occur when nickel is used. We only use high-grade materials that are TGA-approved.

Tooth-coloured Fillings

Unsightly silver fillings are a thing of the past. We use composite resins to create tooth-coloured fillings that match the shade and shape of your original teeth. The filling materials are TGA-approved, quick, and simple to bond into place, a very straightforward cosmetic dental procedure.

Inlays and Onlays

Porcelain inlays or onlays are often recommended when broken, or decayed teeth are located at the back of the mouth. Thanks to our amazing new CEREC 3D machine, we can offer the latest in ceramic reconstruction technology right here in our dental surgery – and in a single visit. While you lie back in the dentist's chair, we use 3D photography and CAD/CAM technology (that's 'computer-aided design' and 'computer-aided manufacture') to mill crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and veneers.

Tooth Whitening

Our tooth whitening technology is clinically proven to whiten teeth by up to eight shades in a single visit. After just one hour, you'll be beaming a "Hollywood white" smile.

Dental Implants

There are many options for replacing teeth but dental implants have provided us with a very natural looking, and predictable treatment option that does not affect the remaining teeth. Dental implants are widely accepted to be the most successful method of tooth replacement used today. Dental implants are made of titanium that integrates with the jaw bone and serves as an artificial root on which a tooth crown can be attached. If there is insufficient bone, it is also possible to build the bone up, and this is called bone grafting.

Missing Teeth Problems

Replacing missing teeth sometimes involves the use of dental implants. When a tooth is lost, the bone that once supported the tooth begins to resorb away both horizontally and vertically. Teeth adjacent to the lost tooth can begin to move into the space, and the opposing teeth often over erupt into the area where the tooth was lost. This can cause food impaction, tooth decay, gum disease and abnormal forces on the teeth leading to fracture or even the need for root canal treatment. When teeth are lost, the support of the lips and cheeks are also lost leading to an aged look.

Dental implants are very versatile and are often used to replace multiple teeth where the artificial teeth are bridged onto the implants. They are also very useful for helping to retain full dentures especially in elderly patients where there has been a lot of jaw bone loss and the patient finds it difficult to eat or painful to keep the denture in their mouth. If you gag easily, implants can also be used to replace missing teeth without the need for bulky dentures.

Regardless of the cause of tooth loss, or the number of teeth missing, dental implants can be a predictable and proven solution for restoring your teeth. After a thorough examination, which may involve x-rays, stone models, and photographs of your teeth (among other records) we will be able to advise you if dental implants are the right solution for you.

Dr. Karl Scarpin has been working with and restoring implants since he graduated in 1994. He has undertaken extensive training in implant dentistry, and is a member of the Australian Osseointegration Society, Australian Society of Implant Dentistry, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, the Australian Society of Periodontology, Global Institute for Dental Education, and the Australian Dental Association.

In 2011 he travelled to the University of California where he successfully completed the final stage of the one-year gIDE/UCLA Master Clinician Program in Implant Dentistry. He has also completed his post-graduate diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants) at the University of Sydney. SureSmile® Clear Aligners

With SureSmile® Clear Aligners, you can achieve professional results with Dr Karl Scarpin. The smile you’ve always wanted is closer than you think. Advanced Dental Centre knows that confidence in your smile is important for your happiness and self-esteem. We are here to help you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted in a way that works for you.

Did you know that straightening your teeth has benefits beyond cosmetic improvement? Misaligned or crowded teeth can make maintaining hygiene difficult, which may lead to oral health problems. Crooked teeth and bite problems can sometimes lead to:

- Tooth damage and chipping

- Tooth loss

- Wearing away of tooth enamel

- Difficulty speaking or chewing

In addition to giving you the beautiful smile you deserve, straightening your teeth may reduce the risk of cavities and help prevent gum disease.

Your Journey to a Confident Smile Starts with SureSmile® Clear Aligners

Clear aligner technology has made orthodontic treatment more discreet while moving teeth to create a healthy, beautiful smile. Unlike traditional metal braces, which rely on brackets and wires, SureSmile® straightens teeth through a series of clear, comfortable, removable aligners. You can expect to wear your aligners for 22 hours each day and change them every one to two weeks as you progress through treatment. Each set of aligners will put gentle pressure on your teeth to gradually reposition them until your smile reaches ideal alignment.

Is SureSmile® right for me?

SureSmile® Clear Aligners can effectively treat bite problems, including:

- Crowding

- Gaps between teeth

- Underbite – when all the upper teeth sit behind the lower jaw

- Overbite – when the upper front teeth cover part of the lower front teeth

- Crossbite – when one or more upper teeth fit inside of the lower teeth

How long will treatment take with SureSmile® Clear Aligners?

Treatment time will vary based on your unique smile and goals, but generally anywhere from 6 to 18 months.

Can I eat and drink while wearing my SureSmile® Clear Aligners?

Great news – you don’t need to give up your favourite foods while you’re in treatment! However, you do need to remove your aligners when eating and drinking all liquids except for cool water to retain their fit and prevent discolouration. Simply remove your aligners to eat and drink all the foods and beverages you typically enjoy, then brush your teeth before putting your SureSmile® Clear Aligners back in place.

How much will SureSmile® Clear Aligners cost?

The total cost of your new smile will depend on the custom treatment plan we create for you.

Is clear aligner treatment covered by insurance?

Some insurance companies offer orthodontic treatment coverage. To better understand your policy, we recommend calling your insurance company.

IV Sedation

If you are nervous about having dental treatment, have a strong gag reflex or require surgical or complex dental treatment, Sleep Dentistry may be just what you need to help you keep your teeth in great shape. Fear of the dentist affects thousands across Adelaide and Australia, and can be so powerful that they neglect their dental care, rather than sit in the dreaded chair. Not only their teeth, but their general health suffers, as the bacterial load of the neglected teeth and gums spreads beyond the mouth, affecting other organs such as the heart.

Happily, this fear can be overcome through a procedure we offer called intravenous (IV) sedation, also known as sleep dentistry. IV sedation is a very efficient, safe, and effective way of providing profound anxiety relief and pain control during any dental procedure. We are one of the very few dental clinics that offer sleep dentistry in Adelaide.

While under IV sedation, most patients experience a state of deep relaxation and partial or full memory loss for the period of time from when the drug starts to work until it wears off. Although many patients do report an experience similar to general anaesthesia, during sleep dentistry or IV sedation you do remain conscious and have limited verbal response and verbal request.

IV sedation is performed here in our surgery by a qualified anaesthetist accompanied by a registered nurse. Throughout the procedure your breathing, heart rate, blood pressure and the amount of oxygen in your blood are closely monitored to ensure the procedure is carried out safely and effectively.

After the sleep dentistry procedures are completed, you will be cared for in a recovery room, by a registered nurse, until you feel comfortable enough to be accompanied home by a responsible adult who is prepared to stay with you for 24 hours.

For more information on sleep dentistry, please contact our practice today.

Call 8297 4777 or visit our dental clinic at Suite 1, 360 Cross Road, Clarence Park, Adelaide.

Restorative Dentistry

Misshapen, broken, chipped, crooked or decayed… your teeth are a record of your experiences.  With restorative dentistry, it is never too late to correct past mistakes or accidents.

At Advanced Dental Centre, we focus on the restoration of your natural teeth so you can have a second bite at life.  Our restorative dentistry services include:

- Dental Implants

- Veneers

- Crown and Bridges

- Tooth-coloured Fillings

- Occlusal Splints (Night Guards)

- Inlays and Onlays

Dental Implants

Missing teeth or dentures can be replaced with dental implants.  Our Dental Surgeons place a titanium fixture into your jaw, which serves as an anchor for a crown or a set of crowns or bridges.  Those who wear full dentures can also use dental implants to firmly secure them into place.

Veneers

Veneers are often a quick and easy way to fix front teeth.  We use TGA approved adhesives and porcelain laminate veneers because they provide the look, feel and strength of natural teeth.

Crown and Bridges

A dental crown, also known as a dental cap or tooth cap, is often the best way to improve the structural strength, and cosmetic look of teeth that have been chipped, worn excessively, heavily filled, or broken down by tooth decay.

If you have missing teeth, a dental bridge could be the solution.  Our Dental Surgeon creates the “bridge” with two dental crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap and custom-made teeth in between.  Once bonded, the dental bridge fills the area left by the missing teeth.

You can choose to have your crown or bridge made from porcelain, precious metal or a combination of the two.  We use precious metal to prevent allergic reactions that can sometimes occur when nickel is used.  We only use high grade materials that are TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) approved.

Tooth-coloured Fillings

Unsightly silver fillings are a thing of the past.  We use composite resins to create tooth-coloured fillings that match the shade and shape of your original teeth.  The filling materials are TGA approved and quick and simple to bond into place.

Occlusal Splints (Night Guards)

Occlusal splints, also known as night guards, can be ideal for people who grind or clench their teeth during sleep.  We make them as small and thin as possible to limit discomfort.  They can reduce tooth wear, chipping and prevent fillings or porcelain restorations from breaking.  They can often, also help to prevent stress and tension-related headaches, and Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Disorder.

Inlays and Onlays

Porcelain inlays or onlays are often recommended when broken or decayed teeth are located at the back of the mouth.  Thanks to our amazing new CEREC 3D machine, we can offer the latest in ceramic reconstruction technology right here in our dental surgery – and in a single visit.  While you lie back in the dentist’s chair, we use 3D photography and CAD/CAM technology (that’s ‘computer-aided design’ and ‘computer-aided manufacture’) to mill crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and veneers.

Zoom WhiteSpeed FAQ:

1. What is Zoom! WhiteSpeed Teeth Whitening and how long does it take?

The WhiteSpeed lamp can be adjusted according to the individual patient’s needs, with its low, medium, and high settings allowing for full customisation of the teeth whitening procedure. Most patients experience LITTLE TO NO TOOTH SENSITIVITY following the procedure, which makes the experience more enjoyable and comfortable for the patient.

Zoom! WhiteSpeed is a process for whitening both the dentine and the enamel of teeth. The process takes approximately 2 hours but it is highly recommended to have your teeth cleaned before the procedure.

2. How does Zoom! Whiten your teeth and is it safe?

The Zoom! Light activates the hydrogen peroxide in the special whitening gel which allows oxygen to enter the teeth and bleach the discoloured material. Tooth whitening under the supervision of a dentist has been shown to be completely safe. However, tooth whitening is not recommended for children under the age of 13, pregnant women, or breast feeding mothers.

3. How does Zoom! teeth-whitening feel and how long does it last?

Most people are completely comfortable, allowing them to watch T.V or listen to music through the procedure.  Some tooth sensitivity may be felt but this is usually temporary. Provided the post whitening instructions are followed your teeth should remain permanently whiter. We give you a top up whitening gel can be used to keep your teeth white and bright over time.

4. What causes tooth discoloration and do many people have their teeth whitened?

Teeth become more yellow as we age, but many foods and drinks can also discolour teeth such as tea, coffee, red wine, and smoking. Some antibiotics or too much fluoride taken at a young age can also cause discolouration.

If you would like to book an appointment  for ZOOM! WhiteSpeed teeth whitening, please call us today.
